Re: Missing photos using lightning SD card reader

Hi,

I've searched the forums for a solution to my problem with no luck!

I am currently travelling around the world and have been using my Ipad mini and a lightning SD card reader to back up all of my photos. Once transferred onto the ipad, I then transfer onto dropbox. My camera is a Sony Dsc-hx20 and I am using a sandisk extreme class 10 32gb sdhc card. This process has worked fine without any issue until now...

During the last few backup attempts, not all of the photos are displaying on my ipad once the sd card is inserted into the sd reader. I have checked and the missing photos re-appear if I insert the card back into the camera and display fine on the camera playback. It is always the same few photos, normally good ones which i'm desperate to backup! I have double checked and can confirm that there are no photos saved to the cameras internal memory.

I have since tried this in my iphone and partners ipad and have experienced the same issue!

Could this be an issue with the sd card, the card reader or the camera??

Thanks in advance!

Several possibilities:

I don't know about the camera, but on the iPhone you can have photos in different "albums" in the the standard "photos" folder, of which one is called "camera roll".

Also when you use Camera+ app it puts the photos in a different place. If you have a photo editor they put it in a different place also.

The photos in the Camera you don't see: are they in "raw" format perhaps?

Hi Lex,

Thanks for the response.

When using the ipad and sd reader to transfer, a temporary album appears alongside photos and albums, on which you view the memory card files and select which ones to import to the ipad. It's at this 'import' stage that i'm missing a few photos here and there. Once the selected photos are imported, they are saved to the ipad under 'last import' or 'photos'.

Then when I exit this process, place the memory card back in the camera, all of the photos appear as they should in order, with none missing! Very strange.

Not sure if the missing files are in RAW mode. How would I check? All the photos are shot mostly using the same auto setting on the camera and save sequentially.

THanks,
