How can I burn a TV recording to DVD

I have a MBP that has EyeTV connected and I have recorded a one hour TV program. The folder that I saved the recording into has 5 files;

000000000b1fd396.eyetvp 4 KB
000000000b1fd397.eyetvi 276 KB
000000000b1fd397.eyetvr 124 KB
000000000b1fd397.mpg 2.61 GB
000000000b1fd397.tiff 828 KB

The "mpg" file shows up as a QT file. I tried to put these files into iMovie and none would load.

My wife wants to record craft shows off of cable onto the computer then put them on DVD show she can watch them while we are on a road trip in our motor hame. How can I copy the shows to a DVD show she can play them back on a DVD player?

G5, dual 2, 17" MBP

I'm confused. I import cable video into the eyetv
software using the Plextor video converter. I then
click on the file menu, go to export, and export it
as a DV file. It creates only one DV file which
easily imports to iMovie.

Yes. However, things are even easier with EyeTV 2 Software.

See http://www.elgato.com/index.php?file=supportupdateseyetv for information on updating your 1.8.x software to the latest vesion.

Fred is right. His approach is the easiest way and
least time consuming using eye TV software from the
start to edit out commercials. I've already looked
into elgato/eyetv and that is the recommended
approach.

I actually HAVE the product being discussed and a solution has been offered. This thread is already far longer than it needs to be, best we move on to helping others.

I am in the learning curve since I just loaded it a couple of days ago. I have version 2.3.2 of EyeTV 2. I tried to remove a commercial by selecting the commerical area, it turned yellowgreen. I went to edit and selected clear. The section that was yellowgreen did not clear. However I was able to export it to QT.

Guess I got some more reading to do about editing.

Hey, SDMacuser, I am Rolacoy in your buddy list.

oh ..... hello! Didn't realize it was you. Fred's given you some good advice here. He too has this product evidently and it sure sounds like he's very familiar with how it works.

Toast 7 is required apparently for this product. I'm sure you'll find many other uses for this software as well. Good luck to you! We'll chat later ...

I recorded a 2 hour movie and removed the
commercials. I am recording some text files to put on
a DVD Monday.

The file is 3.73 GB, will it fit on a DVD ?

How large of a file can be put on a DVD ?

Does Toast do any compression ?

Benny,

The EyeTV 2 software has already MPG-2 compressed the video. Your 3.73 GB file size is pretty much the size of what Toast will put on your DVD.

If you try to add more content, Toast will have to reencode everything and that will take a L O N G time and the quality will suffer Discs are cheap. Save yourself a lot of time and don't try to 'cram' too much on a disc.
