IOS suddenly reduces motion

I have never had that happen to me but then I am just one individual - not sure how it could be happening on its own....

Do you by any chance have Low Power Mode activated? If so motion effects become disabled.

This is definitely a springboard crash on your device. The springboard is the section of iOS that manages animations when you quit apps, go to the app switcher, etc.

Unfortunately, this issue is slightly more common on older devices as they usually have less RAM which can cause apps and parts of the Operating system (such as the springboard) to crash more as there is not enough space left in the RAM to sustain them.

You could try a restore which some have noted to fix the issue, the instructions to do so can be found here:

If you have noticed that this happens after using a specific app then you may want to try reinstalling it or not using it.
