Can't Shut Down / Restart Without Finder Relaunch

For several months I have been unable to shut down or restart my MacBook Pro without first relaunching Finder. In fact, I believe the issue predates my upgrade to El Capitan.

If I attempt to shut down or restart without immediately prior going into Force Quit and relaunching Finder, the menu bar will disappear but the shut down or restart will not continue. If I launch an application, the menu bar will return while that application is in the foreground but I cannot shut down or restart without holding down the power button or using a command line application in Terminal.

Sometimes I need to relaunch Finder twice. The first time the menu bar disappears. I then hit relaunch again and the second time the menu comes back and I can shut down or restart. This, however, is rather infrequent. Usually I am successful on the first try.

I have tried Disk Utility. I have tried combing the logs. I suspect there is a plug-in or something that is preventing the action but I have looked through the logs and can't see anything out of the ordinary and am not familiar enough yet with OS X to know where to look for a list of processes that are linked to Finder.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can determine what is preventing me from shutting down or restarting without relaunching Finder immediately before attempting to do so?

What that normally indicates is some third party software you have installed is preventing your Mac from shutting down normally. Do you have any AV software installed or a cleaning program such as CleanMyMac? If so, uninstall them and restart and see if that helps.

Thank you for the quick answer,

unfortunately I have no AV, neither cleaning programs. The only thing I remember I did in the last week was the update of the OS.

I don't know if it will help you but I just read someone fixed their shutdown problem by uninstalling their Wacom software. you could try it.

dialabrain...you are my hero!

Problem fixed.

Before your post I was just randomly trying to shutdown processes. Following your advise I shutdown the Bamboo core and the computer rebooted.

Now I simply disabled the Bamboo in the Login Items and everything works fine.
