iPod resets when I download music

When I sync music onto my new iPod touch it wipes the system, sending me back to the "hello, welcome to your device" beginning page.

I got the iPod 5 (64GB) this year and noticed this problem, so returned it and got a new one but the problem persists. It allows me to download movies and apps, but not music. Most of said music is downloaded from CDs (not the iTunes store) so that might be it, but I paid for it all and would like to get my money's worth on the iPod that I paid for.

Any advice will be welcomed.
