most universal web video format?

I have a quicktime movie I want to post on my website. What is the most universal format and how can I best convert it to that format? Do I need two versions, a wmv and a quicktime mov? Or would mpeg-1 be best. And what program should I use to convert?
Thanks.

Hi Fay,

Someone posted that www.isquint.com had a good free program to down load. I did. It was quick, easy to do, it made nice small files that looked good and I have had few complaints with compatibiliy or quality.

It worked great for me. I used the simple default setting in iSquint.

I have FCE and QT Pro and I liked the results and ease of use of the iSquint.

Not affiliated Blaa Blaa Blaa.

Flash is probably the most universal web video format. (Just look at YouTube.) I still prefer Quicktime, though.

Windows users will probably prefer WMV, but that is a hassle to encode. (The high end Flip4Mac is not cheap.) I use Quicktime, because I don't believe that Windows users should be exempt from installing the Quicktime Player. (Clearly I have a grumpy attitude! )
