Numbers files disappeared

All of my numbers spreadsheets have disappeared on my ipad, iphone and iCloud. I have many very important documents and they are all gone.

I tried all of the steps listed in troubleshooting guide and they did not help. There was no selection available in settings to turn on iCloud (instructions said to Tap Settings, then Numbers, then turn on iCloud). All I see is a blank screen after I select Settings, Numbers. I tried deleting and reinstalling Numbers but still no files can be found.

When I select settings, iCloud I see there are 26.3 gb of storage available. When I select settings, iCloud, iCloud Drive (on), I see that iCloud Drive is on and so is Numbers.

PLEASE HELP--I must find my missing spreadsheets.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1, ALSO iPad (4th gen) ios 9.3.1

I didn't know about the restore function so thank you! Definitely good to know, however this didn't retrieve my missing files, which have been missing from iCloud for around a week. Was that too long to be recoverable?

I can only assume my files disappeared during a hard drive migration that I have been doing, but why it'd delete the, from iCloud, I have no idea. It's incredibly frustrating as these Numbers documents contain vital accounts information and I wish I knew where they were. Literally everything except templates had gone.

Just happened to me. Same thing, I had a .Numbers file I was sharing with someone for a couple years over the cloud. One day it just disappeared. Not even in the trash. Apple support could't find it.

Interestingly, the sharing feature stopped working one day. The person I shared with could never access the file. Until one day after the file disappeared off my cloud, they found that exact file on their drive but not on cloud.

Hi. No, they have not come back yet. When I logged it they said it might be a week before

I had a week dialogue with a senior support manager who to,d me more than once that the engineers had restor d everything they could - which was absolutely nothing!

My only recourse to escalate this issue is to post on Apple.com/feedback and to post a legal claim, even though there is no legal claim channel for this type of problem. There appears to be no way of escalating this issue to senior management.

My main problem is that Apple are advertising and selling a cloud platform (iCloud) that by definition should be covered in respect of disaster recovery and backup (otherwise it is ‘not worth paper it is written on’) and the engineers can not reinstate missing files - furthermore, this platform is randomly deleting whole directory trees covering hundreds of files dating over many of years, which contain business grade information - this is criminal and should be communicated to the whole Apple community. If you can help with this I would appreciate it.

I will update you if I get further updates. Can you please do the same?

thanks.

I have the exact same issue. Numbers files created years ago and actively accessed have simply disappeared. I even pay Apple a monthly fee for extra backup space. These are sales records, customer contacts, price lists, etc. Simply cannot be reproduced. This is devastating to my business. I've very unhappy.

This is the second time this has happened to me. The only work around I have found is by logging into your iCloud account from a Mac or PC. Open the numbers app from there and you can see all of your files. I had to open then close several documents before my iPhone would sync up. Once that happens your files should be back on your device. Keep in mind 3 weeks after doing this I lost everything again, just repeating this will fix it again. Fingers crossed that they fix this issue soon!

Good

I just had this happen to me today. I didn’t have any updates to my phone or the app recently. I even edited my budgeting file this morning using Numbers. Went to open it later in the day and it was not showing. I was able to see it in my recents for awhile but after I turned my phone off and back on it is completely gone now. I had this issue with pages a few months back too. I honestly believe it has something to do with this new files app they use in iOS 11 but I have no proof of it. But for my files to stop working on pages and numbers. That is the only thing they share.

Just to give more info for resolution options... I had this happen to me today.

The Numbers app on the iPhone showed that I had zero files and no consumed space for documents in iCloud or locally.

The Files app could see my documents in Recent, but would not open them.

On iCloud.com however, I found my documents normally.

I played around with the Numbers app, disabling and enabling iCloud etc... but nothing helped. From what I can understand, the Numbers app crapped out, although it wasn’t giving any errors.

The fix for me was to delete the Numbers app from my phone and reinstall, everything was normal after that.

I had done nothing techie (sharing, etc.) but woke up to a blank page instead of my vital files. After a cup of coffee and massaging my heart, and trying a number of things to no avail, I took to google to see if I could find a solution. This answer was it! BUT...two of my Numbers files on iCloud that I looked at on my MacBook said they couldn’t be opened as something was wrong with them. It said I had to duplicate them. BUT, when I tried that, the Duplicate button was grayed out! So, I downloaded the two files, and then uploaded them to iCloud. That worked. It saved them as copies, so I deleted the two unopenavle files. Finally (phew) I turned off the iPad and rebooted it. All is well, heart is pumping well, and the coffee tastes even better than before.

I've the same problem whith my numbers file on icloud drive.

I don't understand why all my numbers files disappear.

On my Mac os Sierra, just a directory but all empty.

On my Iphone SE ios 11, i saw files with cloud icone, but can't open it.

On icloud web page, just a directory but all empty.

I've unhappy, and don't know what to do to retrieve my files.

My pages files are ok.

If someone had a solution, i will be gratefull.

I had the same problem, tried calling apple support more than once with no outcome. What i did is i searched on my hard drive for the latest version I had for one of the Number files that were stored on the icloud and I started updating it again and then I uploaded it on the icloud from my mac. When i opened Numbers from my iphone after that, i found the new file and all the other files are back as well!!!. Have no clue what happened or what is the justification but try it.
