I have an iMac ( Late 2013 2.7 Ghz, 8 GB) with OS 10.11.4 and iPhoto 1.5. I am trying to move a video on DVD recorded in UDF format into iPhoto. It will not work. Any suggestion as to what I can do to get the video into iPhoto.

You'll need to rip the movie/video from the video DVD with a 3rd party app. The one most recommended here is the open source Handbrake.
You know. In checking the DVD more closely, I find it was generated by Yes Video, likely a commercial service. When I do Get Info, I see the DVD is read only.
All video DVDs are read only once they are burned to disc. If the content of the vide DVD is yours then you can rip it.
