Software instrument tracks or real instrument tracks?
To transfer a track from one project to another select all regions in the track, switch to to the other Garageband project, create a new track with the same instrument and paste the copied regions into the track.
Thanks. That worked with the vocal track but not with the keyboard track. I originally recorded a Garage Band 'Pop Kit' Bass Drum driven by my Yamaha MM8 keyboard and when I transferred the track to the new project, I got the rhythm being played by a Grand Piano. I recently upgraded to OS 10.10 (El Capitan) and don't recognize any of the voices in Garage Band. Will I have to re-record the whole project?
My project (a children's book with a CD of music and narration) was originally recorded as a group of single tracks. All recording is done. At the end of the narration session my author tells me she wants the 3:40 minutes to be broken down into four CD tracks. I can do that if I transfer the parts for the CD's Track 1, then Track 2, etc.
I've been on the phone with AppleCare for 18 hours over the last two weeks and they've upgraded my OS. I've kept the old Garageband because I didn't want to lose any of the voices. The track regions have changed colors but AppleCare says it's the old Garageband but I can't find the Pop Kit.
I will try again with AppleCare. I can use all the help I can get. The CD and book go to the publisher on Friday!
If you have Pop Kit installed for GarageBand '11, you should be able to switch the "Grand Piano" of the new track in GarageBand 10 to the PopKit.

Select the track with your drums, then type "pop" into the search field of the Library and the Pop Kit should appear in the "Legacy" section of the library , among the older sounds migrated from GarageBand '11.
Sorry, I could not tell from your original question that you were trying to move recordings of single tracks between projects from different GarageBand versions. I am not even sure, if it is supported. It works well for copying and pasting between GarageBand '11 projects.
