iMovie 10.1.2 won't create new movie project

I've got iMovie 10.1.2 running on El Capitan 10.11.4. It was working just fine and about a week ago it stopped allowing me to create a new movie. I can create a trailer, but not a movie. It doesn't matter if I click on the new movie button on the projects screen, go to file>new movie or use command N - none of them work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled but problem persists. I've also restarted holding the option key to erase preferences. Any other suggestions??? Thanks.

In case the selected answer doesn't work (it didn't for me), create a trailer, convert the trailer to a movie and erase all the trailer content. It's annoying that we have to find a workaround, but at least we did!

Thanks AlexShul, this extra step worked for me too. I had to delete the "My Movie" folders in my libraries to create a new project.

I tried this and no luck. I can see each individual project I created and imported media into. This media is not available in create window through Libraries>events and no project shows as a movie in Libraries>iMovie Library> If I go to project page then select media button at top, none of the imported media for projects shows on media window. The only media I am seeing is pre-2015.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Hi, if iMovie still can't work for you, I would advise you to use other programs to create movie trailer or movie project. According to my own experiences, it is much easier to use the simple and free video editor published on the internet to create new movie project.

Deleting the settings.plist folder should help, I had the same problem too before
