'Save Current Frame' not working?
MacBook Pro (15-inch Glossy), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
Let's start with the obvious, just to cover our bases.
Verify either the Browser or Timeline panes are active at the time, depending on which one you want to export from.
Verify the clip is highlighted in yellow, and the play head is over it.
Try deleting all Render files (via the File menu, delete generated files).
What version of FCPX are you running?
I re-installed FCPX from scratch. (ver. 10.2.3)
I'm still having issues with creating stills from the timeline (or anywhere actually) using 'Save Current Frame'. I get the 'Sharing' 'Waiting' for a looooonnnnnggggg time. Then I get a Share Failed pop-up.
And there is nothing in the folder I've assigned the exported still to go to.
I'm in a quandary. I've used this technique hundreds of times before, with no issue.
I'm wondering if this has something to do with El Capitan? Perhaps?
And this is what I get when I click through on the Share Failed:
Are are you getting a Share Successful notification? If you are, it should have a Show option to take you to the exported file in the Finder.

BenB.,
Tried from the Browser. No go. Tried again from Timeline, with clip highlighted yellow. The option to 'Delete Generated Files' was greyed out.
I re-'Add Destination' for the 'Save Current Frame'.
Nothing works. FCPX (10.2.3) is not exporting out a still image. There is never anything in the destination folder. I'll do an overall search to see if the 'name' of the single frame takes me to some other obscure FCPX pre-assigned folder. This USED to work fine. I've done hundreds of stills just like this.
I've also trashed my .plist files. No change.

Aha! Maybe a clue there. I remember I used to get sooooo annoyed by that Share Successful. I'd be pumping out scores of stills one after the other and those dang windows would fill up the screen ... always requiring an extra click or two to get rid of them. Maybe my wishes came true. No more Share Successful windows. But. No more successful sharing either. Nothing.
I remember years ago asking how I could turn off the Share Successful pop-up. But can't remember if it was a preference thing. I seem to remember it wasn't. And the little pop-ups continued to drive me nuts.
I'm wondering if this might be a corruption somewhere now. And if I might be better off re-installing FCPX.

A few thoughts:
1) Are you sharing to an external drive? How is it formatted?
2) Create a new library, and try sharing from there. Does it work? If so, that may indicate some corruption in the library you were working on.
Also tried to export an image sequence. No go. Same issues. I notice it did automatically create it's own folder for the Image Sequence, but there were no images inside it.
Even though the popup menu said it was a 'Successful Share'.
This is a bit discombobulating, I'm completing two films and need to make all the posters, DVD/Blu-ray covers etc. etc.
And I don't have the time run shots through Premier Pro to make stills - if only FCPX had such an easy export mechanism for stills. Click, poof, there's my still.
I'm at a loss. I'm going to pull up another project to see if it's something about the project itself.
Hi Luis,
The project is on an external drive, but I'm sharing to a folder on my laptop. The external drive is Mac formatted, Journaled I think.
I'm just booting up another project, different library, to see if I still have the same problem. Will report back shortly.
Aha!
It must be a corrupt Library. Export Still works fine with another project.
Mmmm. Now for some advice, Luis....
I'm working on a feature doc. It's almost done. But I need to pull a whole bunch of stills from the timeline. And I will be doing alternate versions of the film over the next few months. So I need an exact replica of the current (weirdly corrupted) Library.
is there any way to 'easily' reconstruct a Library? I've got scores of projects that have to be managed... over to any new Library.
I do have FCPX Library Manager, which I haven't used much yet.
Okay. Just checked. It's obviously the Library. I trashed preferences, and it's still not outputting stills. Just freezes in the output (though I can still work meanwhile on the timeline). And no still ever arrives where it is supposed to.
So I'm back again ... wondering if I can create a New Library, and move all the files of my current Library over to the New Library. ??
Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with Final Cut Library Manager. I know it is very well regarded in the community, but I haven't bought it (yet?).
Whatever you do, make sure you have a good backup (even if the library is somehow corrupted, it contains your important work!).
I have never been in this position, but this is something I would try:
1) Make a full backup (you do have a backup drive or three, don't you?)
2) Delete all generated files
3) Create a new library
4) Drag and drop to copy all events from the old library to the new one.
5) Close the old library and see if the new one behaves.
Note: step 4 does not have to mean copying hundreds of GB of media, unless the two libraries live in different volumes and use managed media.
You could put the new library in the same volume, and do not need a lot of extra space because if the media is managed (i.e. inside the library), FCP X will use hard links to avoid file duplication.
Cher Luis,
My film is in one Library, and in ONE event -- with many Folders & Keyword Collections.
I'm wondering if I can just move the EVENT of the old Library (containing all the film projects etc. etc.) into a NEW Library -- that has all the same 'Storage Locations' already pre-set?
Is there anything I have to watch out for? Like boom boom, my entire film is lost?
I'm going to back up the original Library to another disc just to be sure.
All ears,
B
I'm going to do exactly as you suggest Luis. And will report back.
If it takes awhile to process I'll report later. I just got invited to a holiday barbecue, something I don't want to pass up.
Thank you mucho.
Ben
Hi BenB,
Dong all you suggest right now. Back in a sec.
I'm running whatever the latest FCPX is.
A sec...
