New iPhone on Cricket, can't modify or play back Visual Voicemail greeting

I have an iPhone SE I just got, set up Visual Voicemail with Cricket in the iOS Phone app in the Voicemail tab. Worked fine. However now when I go to the Greeting area the buttons dont' work and I can't play it back. I can only hit Cancel.

When I play around with it maybe changing my cell data on and off occationally I can get it to play back and the buttons work till I leave the screen and go back, but usually it doesn't work.

I Tried resetting network settings, bottling hte phone on and off, resetting the voicemail passcode in the Phone settings and by calling Cricket, doesn't do anything. I can get voicemail and play it, just the Greeting area doesn't let me do anything and I would like to know what the cause is.

VM is usually carrier mediated

Each carrier has their own way of configuring the voice mail process
There is no standard setting for VM in iPhone per se

Discuss with Cricket tech support OR

You can consider using Google Voice Lite - it is free and takes away dependence on the carrier

I Prefer using the Cricket VM and the Phone app's Visual Voicemail tab. Since the voicemail does work, I'm fine the way things are. It is just this one aspect where the Greeting area buttons usually aren't working. Could you explain more how would Cricket be responsible for that and how they could help identify the cause?

I can give you my experience - when (years ago) my spouse and I came from Blackberry - one of the phone was set up perfectly and the other was not. We had to call the carrier and work through the set up on their backend before the second phone VM was functioning as intended. Also if you look into the iPhone settings (and as you know you can now search settings on the main screen using a down swipe) - there are really no advanced settings for VM

I did someting which I'm not sure if it fixed it on my end or Cricket's or if this is a short term fix... I deleted all my voicemail that had been saved and in the deleted voicemail area I did clear all and I quit the phone app and I went to the Voicemail. Tab and I hit greeting and I waited a few moments and it started working and has been working since then for the last few tries. Don't know what happened really.

You could have done the equivalent of

Delete the app and then restart the phone and re install the app

This frequently resolves incorrect or corrupt installation or integration issues

Glad you had your issues resolved and are up working again and thank you for sharing the experience
