Image Capture Preferences

How do I change the preselected preferences in Image Capture? Just bought a new HP OJP8715 printer/scanner. With my old HP I use to select preferences and they'd remain the same until changing them...resolution, format, file name, etc. Now every time I open IS the preselects are locked in...have to go down each one and change to what I want, i.e., preset at Text &75 dpi and I want color and 300. Used to just set it and the next time I opened IS it would be color & 300. How to I get it to stay at what I set it for future uses?

How to change Image Capture default options?

Yosemite Image Capture Does Not Retain Scanner Settings

Image capture won't save last used settings. Folder destination , scan name. Any way to fix that? It worked fine with Mavericks.. Not anymore...

Using Yosemite 10.10.5. Reviewed the postings you forwarded. Thought I'd try deleting the ImageCapture plist suggested in a couple...there isn't such an animal on my machine. This just started occurring after installing a new HP...the old one using Yosemite retained IC settings. Do you know how to change IC preferences under Yosemite?

Are you looking in the right place? Library folder with contains the .plist is normally hidden.

I do not believe I have ever used the imageCapture.app in the last ten years.

Maybe you could explain your workflow.

Are your Print drivers up to date?

HP has HPutilities and HP Easy Scan.

No IC .plist in my Library/Preferences folder. Used Spotlight to search for Image Capture .plist with neg results. Not sure where else to look for?

The path as you have it written is incorrect.

From Finder>Go>Go to Folder copy and paste:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Image_Capture.plist

Have used Image Capture for the last 5 years on my HP6500A AiO. The HP scanning program that came with that printer was too restrictive in it's cropping functions. HP's suggestion was using another 3rd party, Grab. Just bought a new HP OJP8715 and the installed Easy Scan doesn't work...it looks for my old 6500A and then "unexpectedly quits." HP tech support couldn't fix the problem and I'm still waiting for a supervisor to call. In the meantime IC is working fine, but I can't adjust the preselected preferences. Pain in the arse to have to manually adjust Kind, Resolution, Auto Selection, Scan to, Name and Format every time I want to scan something.

Thanks for the correction and directions to finding the plist. Not sure what I was doing wrong. From an earlier posting I think I may have solved my issue. Used these steps:

1. Quit Image Capture

2. Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)

3. Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash

4. Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer

5. Quit and restart "Image Capture". Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder. It insists on saving to "Pictures".

Initially it didn't work, still reverted to the preselected preferences. So I tried again, changing settings and then added the step to actually Scan and then quit and restart. Not only did it work, but it also retained my "Scan to" to Desktop. OR SO I THOUGHT...just tried opening IC again and the preselects were back in force. Not sure what my next step is?
