Problem Downloading/Installing Security Update 2016-003

I've have attempted three times to install Security Update 2016-003 and have each time received the following message:

Security Update 2016-003 could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. Click Update to download and check the update again. (After your computer restarts, go to the Updates page of the App Store for more information.)

Had not problem installing the iTunes and Safari updates.

Well, that did not seem to work. After resetting the NVRAM, I went to the App Store and tried again; after clicking the restart now option, it went to a darkened screen with no progress bar showing installation. I left it there for about ten minutes, then shut down the computer and restarted. The App Store is still showing that the update is not installed. In addition, for some reason, I am now unable to open my Opera browser either.

Ok..

You aren't trying to download the security update for v10.9 Mavericks are you? >> https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1878?locale=en_US

If the update is for 10.10.5 Yosemite, as your profile suggests, restore OS X. You can restore from a Time Machine backup if necessary.

Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.

From there you can restore OS X using OS X Recovery.

Then try the security update.

Well, considering the potential hours this is going to cost me right now, I am not so sure I want to enable anything automatically. Right now, I have an update listed in both the App Store and the Apple menu that I am still uncertain I am even supposed to install, AND I cannot open the browser that I've been using for a decade. In the past, whenever I've restored from a Time Machine backup, it's never seemed very stable. I'll try it in a little while, but this should not have been anywhere near the headache that it has been. Fortunately, I did do a Time Machine backup just prior to attempting the update.

I restored through Time Machine to the installation I had prior to the App Store update and, as I predicted, I have an incredibly buggy install now: only Safari and Firefox browsers will open (i.e., Opera, Chrome, AND Vivaldi hang and have to be forced to quit), my external monitor is NOT being recognized, and I STILL have both the App Store AND the Apple Menu telling me that I have an install to perform.

Is there ANYTHING I can do to fix this problem, besides the hours and hours of work that a clean install of Yosemite will require? NOTHING in that App Store notification said anything about this update not being for users of Yosemite. It specifically says "Security Update 2016-003 10.10.5" which is the OS I am running, and now that update has completely screwed up my computer.
