ipad pro 9.7 update 9.3.2 issue

Today when I tried to update my IPad with the 9.3.2 update over wifi, after downloading the update and the install started like usual. Upon rebooting, I get the Connect to iTunes screen. I connect my iPad to iTunes and try to update it, says update failed and that I need to do a restore. The restore fails (error code 56). I tried all of the fixes from the help page with no luck. Any suggestions or do I need to send off my iPad for repair?

Thanks

iPad Pro, iOS 9.3.2

Bigwagon,

Follow the procedures listed in: Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support

Check for hardware issues

If you see error 53, learn what to do. If you see one of the errors below, you might have a hardware issue:

  • 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16
  • 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 56
  • 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667 1669

Here's what to check:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Check for issues with third-party security software.
  3. Make sure that your USB cable, computer, and network are reliable. Then try twice more to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
  4. If you still see the error message, you can check for outdated or modified software or contact Apple support.

Same problem. Error 56.

I have an iPad Pro 9.7 inch 256 GB with cellular.

My iPad worked fine before the update.

Trying to repeat the update multiple times did nothing except generate more error messages.

So, I bit the bullet and selected the restore option. This resulted in a warning that all of my data and settings will be deleted. I had spent many dozens of hours getting everything just right on my iPad before this update problem. I had downloaded many GBs of hiking maps, music, magazines, books, etc. and it is all lost. I wonder why the update, which was created to fix a problem that I did not have, was not thoroughly tested before it was released.

I use my iPad every day to check traffic on my way to work, etc. Without a functioning iPad, I am in a bad situation.

The odd thing is, despite three error messages saying that even restore has failed, I noticed that the update progress arrow in the upper right hand corner in iTunes on my iMac shows that the update is still downloading. It shows 48 more minutes to go to download just 1.1 GB remaining. Now I am ignoring the multiple error messages and allowing the update to download.

I have work to do from home tonight. I don't have time for these problems.

I checked three tech sites and none of them had posts about problems updating.

I have owned every iPad since it was first introduced.
