'Add link' greyed out

Can anyone tell me why the "Add link" command in Pages is greyed out for me? I've also tried cmd+K but it doesn't work.

I'm using version 5.6.2 on Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.4.

Thanks.

Hi Spartacles,

With this setting in Menu > Edit > Substitutions > Smart Links

User uploaded file

when you type something that is a valid email address (in this example me@here.com) or a web URL, press enter and it will automatically become an active link.

With that setting turned off (in this example you@there.com), you need to select the link first, then Add Link will work.
