iTunes Not Displaying All Albums in Grid View

Latest version of iTunes, just download 12.4.0.119. A major discrepancy in over 1,600 of my albums no longer show up at all in grid view. They are still there on the HDD, and they do show up in Artist view. Anyone else noticed this bug. Maybe no one in Apple software engineering tests with as many tracks as I have in my collection? All was displaying correctly in previous versions of iTunes, so the latest update has broken something. I have reported the bug to Apple, but I guess they get thousands of submissions every day...

This is happening to me too, and in my case it appears to be that albums marked as 'Compilation' are not showing in grid view. Is that the case for you too? The music is still, there and, as you say, can be viewed through the 'Artist' menu. Presumably just a bug as I can't see why it would be logical to hide compilation albums from the album view pane.

I had this issue as well. It took a bit for me to discover what the problem was...

It seems that Apple decided it's a good idea to put non-compilation albums under "Albums" and create a separate section called "Compilations" for compilation albums (the ones where you ticked the box "this is a compilation" and left the Album Artist field blank). I checked the number of songs showing up in Albums and in Compilation, and the sum perfectly matches the number of tracks I see in the Artists section.

To see Compilations section, first hover around "Library" and you will see "Edit" showing up. Click on it. Then you will see eight items (Recently Added, Artists, Albums, Songs, Genre, Composers, Compilations, Music Videos). Tick the box next to "Compilations" and click "Done". The albums and songs you couldn't find in Albums should all be there.

Thanks, this helped to understand. It is not a wrong choice, but this is the kind of choice that should be left to the final user to do. Too bad every time I open iTunes it makes me puke always more and more. When I started using the Mac it was my fav program. Now it made me stop listening my own music.

"Music manufactured on devices using mainly Microsoft Products differ from music manufactured on devices using mainly Apple products. When two albums are combined on one computer, other types of file creation devices cause slower response times during media player updates due to information conversion applications of servers, and time restrictions. I have had music in my collection suddenly disappear because certain people involved in the process of maintaining internet connections were not satisfied with work they could not do. When the internet connection is lost during any type of storage transfer, it can cause corruption in file storage making the files inaccessible to the intended recipient."

I think the idea is to keep your iTunes library organized. The problem comes when you have music on your computer that doesn't have all the information updated "perfectly". Double clicking a random sound file on the Mac will automatically open it in iTunes if iTunes is the default program chosen for that type of sound file. The same thing happens on other operating systems. When you are online and organizing your libraries it is possible that Apple might request information based on their schedule, and any unfinished data collected will alter the information the next time similar data is collected. If the power goes off during data transfers or if the connection is broken, additional file corruption can happen. It's best to be careful when making your own music to make sure it can be stored offline.

Once again, Apple has proven their unacceptable incompetence. Fix it, Apple. NOW.

“Unacceptable incompetence.” If you believe that then I want you to explain why you are still an Apple user. And NOTHING needs to be fixed. It was a design decision that you don’t agree with, period. Instead of ranting nonsense why not send feedback to Apple requesting another change. Instructions for doing so are just a few lines up.

"And NOTHING needs to be fixed."

Well, hopefully Apple will fix the minor bug that causes albums to disappear from some views, for those users to continue to use a largely unnecessary way to group compilation albums. For those screaming that Apple should " fix it NOW", note that its less than 2 weeks since 12.4.0 was released, and even when "patch builds" are needed to fix issues of this type they typically take 3-4 weeks to appear. There are a clearly a number of bugs in 12.4.0, so its more likely that Apple won't update until all of these are addressed.

@lkrupp: The window at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ where we can offer Apple feedback only allows users a limited amount of characters (letters). I, for one, was unable to describe the problem (which I share with others in this thread) with the few words the system tolerates. :-(

You can also include a link to this thread (and/or others addressing the same issue) as part of the feedback report. Software developers/testers generally like to see examples of what users are complaining about 🙂. Your suggested brief description might not be sufficient, as the issue affects albums that have the "Album is a compilation ..." flag set (compilations grouped using a common Album Artist are not affected), and specifically results in the disappearance of such albums when the Albums view is not sorted by Artist.
