add the percentage symbol without format

Hello,

Is there a way to "add the percentage symbol without formatting"?

I want to leave the integrity of my cell formula in place but display the result with a % symbol.

I checked help first but it did not solve my issue. I didn't need help with my equation it was only with numbers formatting as described above.

I appreciate your help but please understand I am not a kiddy, I am a 50yr old man trying to study at University and learn a new computer system. I purchased this macbook air specifically for study but am still learning.

Your reply makes me wonder if I am really welcome to ask such a question on here again, I hope I am wrong.

Hi Thanks for your reply please see below screen shot.

The formula for the highlighted cells is Return on Total Assets = Net Profit before Interest & Tax / Average Total Assets x 100

I would like to maintain the formula by not using the inbuilt % function as it requires me to remove the x 100 from my formula. Average total Assets is not shown on that screen but it is in the formula.

Is there a way to just show the cell result for formatting the text to show the result with a % sign?

Hi Darren,

I want to leave the integrity of my cell formula in place but display the result with a % symbol.

What is the formula? What cells contribute to that formula?

A screen shot will help to explain.

Please reply with a screen shot of a small part of your screen (command shift 4 and drag). Full screen shots (command shift 3) are often difficult to read.

Please include the Formula Editor in the screen shot or paste the formula into a reply.

See this User Tip by Wayne on how to post a screen shot.

Darren,

In the future, better to disclose this is for homework. You should learn how to do this and learn how to use the help tools. Number has extensive help which we would have suggested first.

Everyone here is happy to assist but we don't do homework.

when you type the "=" (equal sign) in a cell, then Number function browser appears on the right. You can search for functions.

In addition, there is online help using the Numbers menu item "Help > Formulas and Functions Help"

Hi Darren,

I'm quite surprised that you are permitted (probably encouraged, and possibly required) to use a spreadsheet application to calculate a result, but that you would lose marks if you also used the application's ability to format that result as a percentage.

I doubt there are many current spreadsheet applications without the ability to display 0.2955 correctly as 29.55% by formatting the result as a percentage.

Barry
