Macbook network keep alive on lid close?

I use my Macbook around the office and I love it. I use both Microsoft and Apple office tools, as well as remote into various devices using Citrix. One issue I am having is as I move around the office or attend meetings I need to carry my MacBook with the lid open so I don't drop my network connection, especially when removed in controlling another device.

How do I set my network connection not to fall asleep when I close the lid to my MacBook? I don't need the display to stay active, I just want my network so when I open my lid again I can continue my work without having to reconnect to everything.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), 15" - 2.8 i7 - 16gigs DDR3 - Rad R9

several online Blogs suggest that there are several things you can do to improve this situation.

1) remove all other Networks so that there is no period of 'evaluation of the best possible connection' when your Mac wakes. Use these two settings:User uploaded file

Reduce this second list to EXACTLY ONE network to join.

If you routinely carry your Mac away, use a separate Location file to specify each separate Network you wish to join at other times, and set up your Mac again for each network, saving the basket of settings for that network in a separate cleverly-named Location file, e.g., "Home", "work", "Starbux".
