Restore timemachine sparsebundle to virtualbox

Hi !

First, sorry for my bad english, I'm from France ... ;-)

I'm on mac pro early 2009. I had an other mac in the past. I try since few days to convert this old mac timemachine sparsebundle to vdi.

This sparsebundle is password protect, but I remeber it :-) !

The sparsebundle is located on my synology NAS (outside the timemachine folder used now)

My old mac was a mini under Mavericks.

So I began the Mavericks installation on VirtualBox with hope my sparsebundle will be discover by time machine restauration utility (at the begining of the installation process).

I first convert my sparsebundle to dmg and attach this dmg as sata disc but this sata disc was not found (by time machine restauration utility or by drives utility).

Next, I convert this dmg to dvi : same result ( = no result !).

I decided to finish the instalaltion of Mavericks, just to try, and not to stay on a failure.

This way, when Mavericks was full usable, I discover my vdi file was unreadabled ... (Mavericks proposed me to initialise it).

My second try was a method I used on real mac with success ... but not here :-(

In my fully operational Maverick VM, I created a big new virtual vdi hard drive. I mounted my sparsebundled and I copied files & folders situated in the "Lastest" folder of the sparsebundled to the root of virtual hdd. I shut down the VM, put the new virtual hdd as the only sata hdd drive and charge in the optical one the Maverick installer dmg.

I started the VM (the hdd is not bootabled at this time) and lauch the install process on the vdi hdd. On real computer I had success with this methob but here, near the end of process this fail with an error message ("Contact the editor of the software").

I'm now lost and I don't have no more ideas ! Perhaps I failed in my process for the first method (why my vdi is not readabled ?). I prefer ask help here before try other actions beacause my sparsebundle is 40 Go and all try take a long time.

Thanks to people who can help me !

Here is the final method after multiple tries !

1) Create a fully fonctionnal VM with the right Mac OS version (same as the version to restore)

2) Create a 2nd vdi hdd and attach it to a SATA port of the VM

3) In the VM, restore the sparsebundle image on the vdi hdd with disk utilities

4) Run migration assistant : this tools show you backups present in the 2nd vdi hdd and you can restore.
