Default no headers / footers? (Pages 5.6)

I rarely use headers and footers in Pages (Pages 5.6.1, Mac OS 10.11.2). I know how to uncheck the header / footer boxes in the Document set-up, and that I can make my own templates with my preferred settings. Are these my only options -- or can I make default NO footers and headers in every document.

(I'm surprised that the topic of default settings is not broader / more helpful in Pages Help. Searching for the answer is vexing, because the search mingles current answers with ones 11 year old. One would think that Apple could come up with a search engine better at age-ranking answers instead of giving demonstrations in software archeology.)

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), Numbers 3.6.1

In Pages->Preferences->General, "For New Documents:", choose the template you created that does not have headers and footers. That is all.
