Icon view change number of columns

I am sure there must be a way of changing the number of columns in icon view, not the space between columns, not the size of the icons but the number of columns, this grab for instance has 4 columns and if I want to see the hidden ones to the right I have to use the scroll bar, I don't want to do that I want to ONLY see for columns filling the finder window ?

many thanksUser uploaded file

Hi Roger, I'm just reminding everyone what you wanted to do. I assume if you followed my reply you got the results you wanted.

You have two options: Right-click in the folder (make sure you're clicking in the white space, not on a file) and select "Show View Options."

Drag the slider for "Icon Size" until all of the files in that folder fit without needing a scroll bar. If you don't want to do that, make the Finder window bigger. Move your cursor to the right (or left) edge of the window, and then click and drag it outward until the window gets bigger.

I'm sorry but that doesn't work. using the 'View Options' as in this grab the are now 9 icons across in the finder window, dragging the icon size slider or the edge of the window makes no difference to the number of icons across it just alters the size of the icons or the finder window, there are still nine necessitating use of the scroll bar which I am attempting to avoid !User uploaded file

When you Arrange and Sort by None, there is no arrangement. There are columns, but not usable unless you clean up or hold down the cmd key when you drop. That will have them snap to grid.

If you want icons in some organized grid, you must organize them in some way.

Yes dialabrain ... some people didn't understand, still very good of them to try and help. However you hit the nail on the head - I've struggled with this problem for soooo long. I did wonder why I didn't have the scrollbar problem some times, those times must have been when I coincidentally had a need to give the window the 'clean up' treatment.

Thanks again, I love you.
