Sorry if this is kinda a silly question, but I'm not that great with computers and just had a query about something. I get the fact that the NetBIOS name is generated on random based on the name of my laptop, but does the 'WORKGROUP' in that mean that I am connecting to something or am offering other computers to share files and so on on with myself?
MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)
It is used only if you are file sharing with Windows machines.

So that means "WORKGROUP" is something automatically displayed in the MacBook system preferences and if I've not actually turned file sharing on it isn't doing anything?
