Pixelmator retouch extension tool not showing up in Photos app. Supposed to be activated and usable when updating to Ver 3.5 Canyon version of Pixelmator. Does anyone know how to turn on the retouch extension?

Have you run Pixelmator from outside Photos since you upgraded its version?
Yes, indeed I have. Any other clues? It's supposed to work with Yosemite, isn't it?
I have the Repair tool and Markup activated in system preferences, and these work as I expect, but I do not have any way to active the new Pixelmator extensions.
The library has got be enabled as the System Photos Library in order to use extensions:

Repair and Markup are working in Mail, but the Photo Editing Extensions for Photos for Mac require El Capitan.
if you want to use photo editing extension from Photos's Editing menu you need to upgrade to El Capitan.
Just do it. Photos has been much improved in El Capitan, and the photo editing extensions are worth it.

I sorta figured that El Capitan was needed to run the new photo editing extensions for Pixelmator, but no where could I find that being explained at all. That's very poor on Apple's part and very poor on Pixelmator's part...very poor communications.
I hesitate to upgrade to El Capitan for a few reasons, Leonie. 1. I have Parallels running on 3 different macs and I would have to pay for updates for each of those machines; 2. One of my earlier iMacs still runs XP under Parallels for my ham radio software, none of which is compatible with Win 7 or above. and 3. I am very concerned about losing Aperture functionality under El Capitan. Until I figure out those risks, I'll not update my machines to El Capitan.
If you were me, what would you do?

I do not know about your windows software.
Aperture is not worse on El Capitan than on Yosemite, I am using it daily.
i have not used Parallels for quite some time, so I cannot hep with that. What you might do is to create a clone of your Mac on an external drive and test, if you can boot it from tat external drive. If Yosemite is working well from that close, you could risk to upgrade the internal drive to El Capitan and try it out. You can always revert to the previous system from the clone or boot your Mac from the clone.
