Can't add card to Apple Pay

Today my bank started supporting Apple Pay in Canada and when i go to my banks website it says the card i have is comparable with Apple Pay, but when i try to add it i keep getting messages like " card no supported" "cannot connect to Apple Pay" and "could not add card". I know for a fact my card is supported and I've been trying to add it since this morning.

Solved by Apple Genius chat: sign out of iCloud. Keep my files and settings. Type in password to turn off find iPhone. Reboot iPhone (not sure if that was necessary) by holding power button and sliding to power off and then powering on again. Sign in again to iCloud and eventually add card to Apple Pay again.

Also turned off the iPad and watch during this time (not sure if that was necessary).

It remembered the card this time and just wanted the security code after which it activated 10 seconds or so later.

Hi,

Just in case, here is a list of participating banks in Canada:

Banks in Canada

  • American Express
  • ATB (MasterCard credit cards)
  • Bank of Montreal (Interac debit cards, MasterCard credit cards)
  • Canadian Tire (MasterCard credit cards)
  • CIBC (Interac debit cards, MasterCard and Visa credit cards)
  • RBC—Royal Bank of Canada (Interac debit cards, MasterCard and Visa credit cards)
  • Scotiabank (American Express and Visa credit cards, Interac debit cards)
  • TD (Interac debit cards, Visa credit cards)

Apple Pay participating banks

Try restarting your iPhone then try again.

  1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
  3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

I found that the solution is to log out of iCloud on your iPhone. Then go to Wallet and attempt to add a card - at which point you will be told that you need to be logged on to iCloud to set up Apple Pay. After logging on to iCloud via the Wallet App I was able to add my card.
