My phone stops charging when it reaches 60%

Hello there,

I've had this problem for almost a week now, and it seems to be getting worse overtime. I received my iPhone 5c two weeks ago, it's a hand-me-down from my dad. Ever since we reverted it back to it's factory settings, the phone struggles to reach 100%. The first time I noticed this problem, I was charging my phone for almost approximately three hours and it was stuck in 91%. I waited for about five minutes then when I checked again, it didn't budge. Nonetheless, it still reached 100% when I woke up.

Fast forward two weeks later, it definitely became worse. My phone would only charge until 80% or 70%, but now only 66%. It wouldn't charge until 100%. I am using a genuine chargers and have tried it on different outlets and computers, and it would still stop charging at 66%.

Here's a few things I've tried to fix the problem but did not work:

  • Resetting the phone (the sleep/wake button one and hard reset)
  • Cleaning the port with a brush
  • the Set Automatically thing in the Date & Time settings
  • Calibrating the battery (but it would stop charging when it reaches 66%)
  • Reverting it back to factory settings
  • Updating the software

Any ideas?

Depending on the age and use of the phone, this could also be a battery issue and the battery might need to be replaced.

You should get the phone diagnosed by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
