.lnk file corruption

Hi. I had occasion today transfer a file by USB to a PC. After doing the action, I later put the USB back into my MacBook and found that all the files and folders have become .lnk files that I can't open. I can't even open the folders. The .lnk files are now very small in size, yet the amount of space available on the USB hasn't changed.

I tried first aid through Disk Utility, but with no result.

Can anyone help me?

Many thanks.

Mac OS X (10.5.8)

One folder is stored on the desktop of the PC that is in my office (not the same PC that has caused the problem: I transferred two files from that folder onto ANOTHER PC). That's about all. Originally, some of the files had been downloaded onto that same PC and then transferred to the USB, after which the files on the PC were trashed. Some others were transferred from my MacBook to the USB.
