Hey everyone,
I was trying to find out how to change the background color of pdfs viewed in "preview" to black and the font color to white.
You might know this function from iBooks, kindle, or other pdf viewers, but I have not been able to get it done in "preview".
Any help and suggestion is appreciated.

Preview is not based on iBooks and has no night mode that provides the view that you seek.
System Preferences > Accessibility > Display
Check the two boxes shown (Preview shows B&W inverted, but Screenshot captures the 'actual' colours):
