Difference between Apple Configurator, Apple School Manager, OS X Server

Hello everyone,

I would like to setup 28 iPads for the use in a claasroom and I did some reesearch about the easiest way to do it.

I found three Apps / Programs that can do the administration I guess. Whats not clear to me is, how those programs work together, which specific task they can do for me that another programm cannot do and which is the easiest way in your opinion to do the administration.

Thanks for your answers.

I found Apple Configurator to be pretty easy to set up our 50 devices. I, unfortunately, had them all on the same iCloud account which may or may not be to your liking. I set it up that so we could use Find My iPhone and not allow the device to walk with and be activated by someone else easily. All I did was to reset an iPad to factory settings. Then I downloaded apps (I only had free apps) and made all my customizations. Then I used Apple Configurator to make a backup of the iPad. Then I just use that "image" and apply it to all the other devices. I don't have the iPads supervised nor assigned to anyone specific. There are a lot of downsides to this setup (e.g. not being able to restore photos easily when you do a re-image), but it is the simplest way to deploy devices. We had to do it this way since we had WiFi only for the internal network and the devices don't talk to the outside world.
