Activation Lock engaged without being prompted
The Activation Lock on my iPad mini was engaged even though I did not prompt it using Where's My Device. Has someone hacked my account?

Yet another recorded instance of this, on my mother's ipad 2 on 23rd Dec. Mother using her crossword app, locked her ipad and walked away. When she returned to open it it went to the activation lock screen. Unfortunately
she's not sure what her password is and the one I've noted isn't going through.
So is it possible the password I have is correct but this profoundly stupid glitch is randomly dumping it?
Hi Michael, I have experienced this issue as well, I'm not sure what my son was using at the time but It has come up with the activation lock screen and requested my details. I've entered my Apple ID and password and at first it wouldn't accept the password so I reset it as I may have entered the incorrect one so thought it would be easier just to reset. After I reset the password (logging into iCloud via my phone) I then went back to the iPad and entered the new password and then it came up with an error message saying that Apple ID can't be used to unlock this iPad. Do you know how you can check what Apple ID was used to activate the iPad, I am certain it was the one I am entering (but it only shows u the first letter of the Apple ID)
Sorry, but none of us can help you here. We are just users like you.
Did you purchase the iPad fro an Apple Store? Do you remember setting up Find My iPhone on the device, or signing into iCloud on the device? If so, do you have any ideas about what that Apple ID you signed in might be?
Cheers,
GB
No clue what it is you are asking. If you want help, provide a complete and clear description of the issue you are having. Provide all relevant details such as the iOS level you are running, what you are seeing, and what issue you are encountering.

When you sign in to iCloud on your iPad, the find my iPad is enabled by default.
Try to sign into it. Does it list a different email address than your AppleID? (Please don't post the email address.)
Or is it "Disabled?"
When I sign in, the appropriate user login info is required.
Well, if it came up while you were browsing the web, then it could very well be a scam. What was the exact message that you saw?

Thanks GB, much appreciated. It was such an unexpected thing to happen, it threw us a bit at the time, so you can understand my concerns!
Thanks Michael. So in order to sign out of these iCloud, FaceTime and iMessage, I have to get into the system, meaning it's ok to put in my current password to reactive, correct?
Michael, thanks for the info regarding "Apple Recommended". The rating seems misleading in my opinion (and this is a topic for either the suggestion box or another more appropriate forum). Thanks.
Given that, in my case, none of the above actions could have remotely happened as you've stated, the evidence would seem to disagree with you.
Although I have a Yahoo ID, it's never been associated with my Apple ID. Yet the activation lock happened to me too.
I don't believe the two issues are linked.
Hi. This is not "activation lock". It is a normal device re-activation, which occurs from time-to-time, usually not long after an update.
Randomly, with no warning, and while you're in the middle of using an app? If that's an Apple design "feature," I'm glad my only Apple product is an iPad ...
