Within 24 hours of installing the ATV, it froze for the first time. At first it was thought that because I had chosen Aerial as the screen saver, it might be the reason for the freeze. (Apple Support told me to change the screen saver to Apple pictures and to choose never as the how often to download, to reinstall the update (something I had already done 24 hours earlier when I turned on the ATV)). I do have a the most recent version (9.2.1). I did a restore to reset the device to factory specs, and it froze again. When I say freeze, this is what I mean. I'm watching a video in CBS or NBC or ABC app and the picture freezes on a frame and will not move. So far I have only been viewing TV shows on those apps. It always freezes during the program - after the middle of the show. Pushing pause twice does nothing. Pushing the menu button does nothing. Pushing the home button does nothing to free up the program. I get a swirling circle and then a black screen. At this point even the screen saver (Apple pictures) does not work. I cannot switch to a different app. At first I unplugged the ATV. Apple Support told me how to force-quit an open app, and I have been doing this ever since the second day of use, but it continues to lock up. When I am finished viewing an app, I force-quit that app, and put the ATV to sleep. I do not have a cable box or a cordless phone or a microwave near the device, but of course being a home that is on the grid, I do have numerous electrical outlets near my ATV. When it locks up, the only working solution at this point has been to press and hold the menu and home button simultaneously for 15-25 seconds, until a flashing light appears on the ATV. At this point it resets itself, and I am able once again to get into any of the 3 apps I have installed at this point. I'm not adding new apps until I figure this problem out. Apple manual also says I could unplug the device, but this is too burdensome for me to do every time it locks up on a frame. So far when it locks up, I doing a force-quit of an app doesn't free up the device. It takes a reset to allow me to again view videos within the apps. I do not have any of my pictures on the ATV. I have not purchased movies within iTunes etc. I am just trying to make it work using CBS all access, NBC and ABC apps. I bought this device to avoid cable, but if it won't work with simple apps, I can't imagine that Acorn and Netflix will work either. They are the real reasons I wanted the ATV. Thanks for all the suggestions. Do you all really think it is interference with the wi-fi??? I am using an Apple Airport Express connected via ethernet to my ISP's modem (not router), but the ATV is connected wirelessly to the Airport Express.
