will a xerox phaser 7300 printer work with El Capitain

As a matter of fact installing the Xerox Phaser 7300 is pretty easy under El Capitan, because there is only PPDs and no fancy plug-ins.

Get the latest 10.6 driver from the official Xerox site

• Double click the DMG
• Ctrl-click the Xerox Phaser 7300 Printing Software package icon
• Select show package contents
• Navigate into Contents/Packages folder
• Ctrl-click the Phaser 7300 PPDs.pkg
• Navigate to Contents folder
• copy and paste Archive.pax.gz on a temporary folder of your choice
• Double click Archive.pax.gz

You'll get the Archive.pax.gz expanded into the Archive folder.

Go to System Preferences, Printer and Scanner. Add a new printer choosing Other and the temporary folder you choose to expand the PPDs.

I think Xerox abandoned support for Phaser 7300 around 10.6.8. If the generic postscript driver isn't good enought for you consider trying the Gutenprint drivers:

I don't have access to a Phaser 7300 so I can't comment on how well these solutions work but, IME, the Gutenprint drivers are usually pretty good.
