why are the forum posts changing my text size at random

It appears some of the posts I make will change the font size at random. I will write a paragraph will suddenly have a sentence that changed font size. I'm not editing the sizes manually so does anyone know what's causing this. It began with the forum change, and I am on Safari 9.1.1

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), Dual Xeon 2.4, 64 GB RAM

To be fair to Apple I think this particular issue might be buried in the TinyMCE editor, and it has only become so apparent because of the new choice of font size. I think we were on 14pt before and difference to 13.3333pt was much harder to notice.

Here goes a live CSS experiment. I've just tweaked this page to show the editor text at 13.3333pt and I'm going to shuffle a few words around as before to see what happens: Cart Horse . How did we do?

Argh, the wrong direction, let's have another go with the editor set to 8pt: Cart Horse. Can you guess?

Still wants to resize (10.6667px this time). One last thought is not to set the font size for the editor text at all. Third time lucky: Cart Horse. Bingo!

So this line of CSS stops the site telling the editor what size text to use, and in turn anything copied and pasted within the editor shouldn't acquire a size that hadn't already been set.

.tiny_mce_content {font-size: inherit !important} /* Prevent cut & paste scale errors in TinyMCE */

Another line to go into my Minimal CSS tweaks for ASC.

Of course, I don't understand any of this, and the lipstick I've already applied to this pig via your initial tweaks are sufficient for my purposes, so I shall not be wading back into those very unfamiliar waters.

Let those fonts do what they will.

The ASC engineers in charge of this mess will either fix it, or they won't.

Fixing CSS is great for those who can, and want to, use it. But us clowns on iPads are stuck with the site as it comes, so any actual changes will have to come from inside, not an external wrappper.

Also, do your CSS fixes change the line spacing along with the text size? If that's not possible, then there's no point in adjusting the font since it doesn't affect the viewable lines. I tested changing the font in the advanced editor and got only small print with large spaces; pointless.

Jun 15, 2016 6:56 AM in response to Diana.McCall

Yes, as it stands the CSS fixes can only be applied locally on a computer which is unfortunate. I have been able to address some of the whitespace issues, particularly line and paragraph spacing. For example I've improved my view of any user tip that contains a listing. Compare this:

User uploaded file

with this:

User uploaded file

Hopefully the powers that be will take on some of the suggestions for improvement that are being made.

If I understand your question right, you are experiencing a "holdover" issue from the JiveWare - NOT the "New Deal" AppleCSSes used to display the forum postings

This has been repeatedly "documented" (and witnessed) for many months

I will dummy up an example an annotate where I have done so....

Try typing out the following sentence (don't copy and paste) and then rearrange it into the standard saying. I've got some CSS which stops the cut & paste method causing a problem, but it still affects select and drag or select and replace.

Don't put the horse before the cart.

Don't put the cart before the horse. < Using cut and paste

Don't put the cart before the horse. < Using select and drag (select and replace looks the same)

Look at the html view before and after trying to move the words around.

Not certain what you are saying here. Are you saying my css works or doesn't work?

Anyway, Hiroto fixed that problem. The text font size of the source gets dragged to the destination. I made some changes then bolded the change. Works for me, if I understand the problem.

IF your intent is to have ALL "Text" display in the size YOU choose ... A HUGE Success!!!

User uploaded file

If your intent is to only affect "Apple's" choices and leave RepliER text alone ... not so much

(Paying attention to the "Lorem Ipsum" dummy paragraphs = annotated as to MY choices in advanced editor)

NOTE: I ONLY changed Font Sizes and the "numbers" I used... the BOLDED WORDS are NOT my doing!

This is from the advanced editor. Simple one's busted.

In the last example I copied and pasted. My style sheet in effect. Based on Hiroto's as always.

CCC, I'm still not clear. Is there a problem with my version of css? From what I understand of tt2 fix, the fix is among Hiroto's stuff.

Difficult to tell font changes in safari.

First problem I see is this copy doesn't look like yours. Font darkness seems to have changed.

Ok, what font-family you see in the advanced editor is different from what you see on the page.

OK, my quick examination of the html seem like it some times copies the points and sometimes not.

Jun 16, 2016 4:08 PM in response to rccharles

OK... I have seen TWO issues today.

  1. Copy/paste does weird things
  2. What we are talking about is OLD = TinyMCE randomly and arbitrarily text in the neverland between composition pane (Simple OR Advanced) and its final display

I was attempting to "demonstrate" #2 ONLY by dummying up what I recall from many past posts using Lorem ipsum text *from scratch*

So here is what you must do to get "fresh" Lorem Ipsum text to replicate my actions

  1. go here and grab it > http://www.lipsum.com/feed/html
  2. *Somehow* get rid of that page's formatting = TextEdit > convert to plain text would work... I use a Clippings manager that ONLY accepts and stores Plain Text
  3. Copy THAT Plain Text and paste into the advanced editor
  4. make SIZE only changes and annotate what those sizes are
  5. 1st thing is to SET a BASE size

So here we go again afresh:

12pt

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Cras vel lacinia enim. *** sociis natoque penatibus et magnis dis parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus. Cras commodo gravida diam. Ut malesuada faucibus magna at cursus. Nullam non convallis libero. 10pt Aliquam consequat eros nec nibh porta, nec ornare nisl vulputate. Fusce semper dolor et lorem sagittis sodales. Quisque euismod scelerisque lorem, quis laoreet erat mollis a. 14pt Nulla sed velit ornare, porta est eget, commodo lectus. Donec sapien magna, convallis in nisi nec, dignissim efficitur metus.

NO Change from initial 12pt Nunc velit est, sodales in ligula at, congue tempus ligula. Ut non massa sit amet justo dignissim varius. Nulla nisl est, aliquam eget nisi id, accumsan tincidunt ipsum. Nam sagittis tellus a justo pulvinar, at tempor ex congue. 8ptPellentesque ex augue, pretium eu nibh sodales, egestas gravida urna. Proin ornare porta rutrum. Suspendisse nibh est, blandit vitae fringilla id, rhoncus sed metus.

Jun 16, 2016 4:35 PM in response to turingtest2

Agree 100%...

One should not go jacking around willy-nilly "composing" a post with Fonts & Sizes of one's own preferences (likely why Advanced Editor takes some "doing" to even invoke... although choice of which one you would like as your own default has been a "pet peeve" of mine)

I can see how judicious use of a "monospaced" Font for some stuff would be appropriate for some stuff like say javascript postings?
