Can't get videos out of "Photos"

I transferred videos from my iPhone to Photos. In order to share them, I need to get them out of Photos and into a folder, so that I can put the files into Dropbox, via gmail. The files are large and won't copy to a folder. They're basically stuck there, in Photos, useless. What can I do?

I can't send any of the files as attachments because they're too big to send through my regular email.

The File > Export menu has two option for export for photos and videos as Winston Churchill explained.

User uploaded file

You either select Export > Export unmodified original, to save the video exactly as you originally imported it, or select the other option "Export ... video", to export the current version, potentially modified. This will result in the file chooser panel with the format options to select the quality.

Hi:

Does Apple have no respect for its customers anymore?

I recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro. I converted my iPhotos library to Photos. Like you, I just attempted to export a video. Seeing no progress bar, I thought it was not working but it was. For quite some time, I assumed that it wasn't which is the OBVIOUS thing to do when there is no progress bar.

There were two options for export. Nowhere did it explain that there were two file formats associated with these options. Same problems for import. No progress bar.

Given that I am responding to a problem from over SIX MONTHS ago and this has still not been fixed, one really wonders what is going on at Apple. And this far from the only Apple caused problem I have had since upgrading.

Frankly, it could have been a whole lot clearer. It could have said what the unmodified file type was and what the modified file type was.

If you use the "modified" option, Photos will have to render a new video to apply your edits to the original.

After you select "Modified", the next panel will ask you to select a video quality for the new, rendered video file.

That's a video editing application, it has multiple file formats available upon export, as such I would expect it to have a list those options.

Photos isn't a video editing application, there aren't multiple file formats available upon export and I would not expect a list of options when there are none.

There are of course lists of options that do exist but if you are trying to tell be you want a list of options that aren't there, then obviously this conversation has long since left common sense behind.

I agree.

All I can say is that what should have taken a couple of minutes took an hour. Google Photos reviews and you will find that there are lots of people who believe that it is not ready for prime time. There are regrettably too many examples of this with all their software.

I plan on transitioning out of as much of Apple software as I can. More trouble than it is worth.

well then something is wrong - but we need details

what do you have? Software names and versions? Exactly step by step what are you doing? What exactly does happen? Do they play correctly in Photos? Have you ever been able to do this? What has changed since it worked? What else can you tell a total stranger that might help them understand your situation?

I have Photos 1.3 (350.23.0). I go to the video then menu, and click export. I choose the folder and it begins. I export photos all the time but I don't usually try to export videos. When I took the video on my iPhone, I didn't alter any settings and it is a long video-over 8 minutes. It's also quite large-over 1GB.

I guess that's the problem but how do I fix it? Will I be able to export this at all?

I have this question too. I only have one video of a wedding. It's 12 1/2 minutes. I took it on my iPod and managed to get in onto my iMac. Been trying to even just drag it to a thumb drive so I can give it to the bride and groom. I can't tell the file size, only the time length. Wish I had known at time of recording. I would've chopped it up into 5 min or less segments, so it would fit on vimeo or the cloud. Sigh.

My Mac has a progress bar, but it doesn't look like it's moving at all. Thanks
