I recently starting using iCloud as my main email service for IMAP and SMTP. However, I still have my original non-Apple email account active with a forwarder setup to point to my iCloud email. I have also set my reply-to to use the original non-Apple email. This setup works fine with the exception that email rules don't seem to work on the forwarded emails.
When you use iCloud's SMTP server, either from Apple Mail or from the iCloud website, you can only use your @icloud.com/@me.com/@mac.com address asd the 'From' address. You cannot use another, non-iCloud, email address.

My from is myname@icloud.com (mailbox1). The Reply-To is othername@non-apple-comain.net (mailbox2).
So all emails are sent using iCloud.com smtp (mailbox1) but most incoming email is from othername@non-apple-comain.net. This is what is breaking the rules but I am not sure why. Here is an example:
Originally it only had the first rule. I added the second Account rule to see if that would fix it, but it does not. Even if I right-click the email and select "Apply Rules" it doesn't forward.

Is there a reason you're using forwarding, rather than just adding that account directly to Mail?
I'm not clear what it is you are trying to do. You have an iCloud email address - call it 'A', and another, non-Apple address, call it 'B'.
You have set up forwarding at B to send all the messages on to A. That would have been done at B, not A. Now you have a rule which appears to forwarding these forwarded messages on to yet a third address - it that right? I would have thought you were better off setting that ar a Rule at the iCloud website.
You initially mentioned trying to Reply from A with account B's address, which as I've explained you cannot do; that's not part of your present query?

The core issue is that Apple Mail rules don't seem to work on emails forwarded to the @icloud.com account and I am trying to figure out why - the way I have setup the rule? Bug? or "feature"?
I only need one iMap account and since I pay for iCloud storage I wanted to use that instead of paying for more storage on another provider. However, I want to retain my original email address so I don't want to cancel/delete it either.
Possibly the Rule sees the messages as coming from the iCloud account, not the original account. Otherwise I don't know; but I would suggest looking at the Rules on the iCloud website which should be able to do what you want.
