How to check external hard drive encryption process progress?

As a sidenote, for APFS-volumes the according command is:

diskutil ap list

From the terminal

Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app copy and paste:

diskutil cs list

I feel like this should be easier to find though. OS X (now macOs) should show you the percentage when you right click on the drive or something like that.
