FWIW, the current version and previous versions of Spotify support El Capitan. However, it will also run on a G4 CPU and OS X 10.5. I suspect you have something installed that is trying to protect you by blocking Spotify because it contains Legacy code. An Anti-Virus program or some other unnecessary app.

Well, if you iMac has exactly the same software on it as your MacBook Pro, there is no reason it shouldn't install.

Try booting in Safe Mode and install it. then restart.

You're welcome. It does mean there was something that was installed that was preventing Spotify from installing. What is was I don't know.
