Select a Single Frame from a Live Photo

When editing a Live Photo, try the new Loop effect to turn it into a looping video that you can experience again and again. Try Bounce to play the action forward and backward. Or choose Long Exposure for a beautiful DSLR‑like effect to blur water or extend light trails. You can also trim, mute, and select a key photo for each Live Photo.

It will be possible, once you upgrade to macOS High Sierra in autumn. The version Photos 3.0 will bring the ability to edit Live Photos and to select key frames.

If you are not in a hurry, just wait for the next release.

This is actually a helpful post, not because it tells you how to fix it, but it acknowledges there is no solution. Are there plans in place to rectify this? Especially useful when taking photos of children and pets.

I also need to vent.

My wife , who is a point and shoot person had no clue about this feature, left it on for all her trip photos, the work this has caused to get the picture she really took extracted from this mess will take a lot of precious time and the image chosen by this feature is the out of focus off centre one!!!

Very disappointed you can't just open the LIVE (DEAD-head ) feature to extract the best.

what version of the OS and Photos do you have? If you start a video playing in Photos 2.0 and move your mouse in the movie frame that control bar will appear

Hi, I found a simple way though this by taking a screen shot with the image in Photos blown up to full screen. When you take a screenshot of your entire desk top with your Left hand Command-Shift & 3 (keep your finger off the 3 until you get the timing right) hover over the Live button and take the shot by pressing 3. Crop to either the original size (which will show the Live button small compared to your large image), or smaller.

I only have to do it a couple of times to get what I wanted which was a lot clearer than the blurry default. Its quite fast process, unless the the shot was shaky.

So I should go digging thru all these responses? I think I agree with several of these comments, Apple should make it as easy as it is when using burst. It's all good, I turned live off. I'll use the other features.

You can hold the photo by placing your finger on the iPad to keep the earlier frame of the live photo and at the same time do a screenshot. It has worked well for me. The picture is not blurry. It takes a couple tries to time it right then you get the hang of it.

Great except this forum is for Photos for the Mac and the question is over a year old, has been clearly answered and for the Mac so how it works on an iPad is non-responsive

Lively is one app you can download to select frames from live photos

Look for the iPhone app "LP Converter". It'll allow you to scroll through the video and pick a suitable frame.

Why did Apple enable this feature if they don't allow to pick the frame?

Just venting ... I know there's no answer

It is much easier with a camera that can take 4K photos. We get four seconds of a video in good quality. But to get really good Live photos requires practice.
