MCA Error report

Hi,

I had issues a couple of days ago where my macbook pro would freeze and I had to manually force it to shut down. I thought the issue was fixed but as of last night it was shutting itself down without warning. When I restart the macbook pro I get an error message stating:

In a MacBook or MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, or iMac or mac Mini, that is an indication of a Serious Hardware flaw, probably in the processor, detected in the running system.

In a Mac Pro silver tower or dark cylinder with Xeon processor, that may be an uncorrectable Memory Error in the Error Correcting Code (ECC) memory. Also a serious Hardware problem.

It may need a new processor chip. In practical terms in a MacBook, that means a new mainboard.

Make an appointment for a free evaluation at your Apple-owned store, and take your panic printout as well, if possible.

Apple Authorized Service Providers can help as well, but there may be a charge for their evaluation.

You should have a Trusted Backup before you take your Mac in for service.

I don't know what the writing in red means - are they something to worry about?

Thanks

Hello Cake1,

The items in red are something to worry about. The "mds" entry is probably a side effect of whatever problem you are experiencing. The "Anywhere" entry is not related to your problem, but is definitely something you need to fix. That is Gatekeeper, your first line of defense against malware. And you have it turned off. Go to System Preferences > Privacy & Security > General and check the radio button that says "Mac App Store and identified developers".

Otherwise, your EtreCheck report says that you have a very recent machine, with very little 3rd party software that could be causing problems like this. You should take your machine to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Centre.

On a side note, why did you change that security setting in the first place? I am seeing more and more people have this setting turned off. There is absolutely no reason to ever do that. It bothers me that so many people are turning off basic security just at the time when Mac malware is starting to become a serious problem. I don't know why I am suddenly seeing so many EtreCheck reports with Gatekeeper turned off. It is a mystery. Someone out on the internet or elsewhere is giving out very bad advice.

Thanks for your reply, in response to your question, I have not touched any of the security settings so the 'Anywhere' entry you were talking about in the settings was set that way when I got this laptop.

Hello again Cake1,

That is not the default setting. That is a malicious change. If it wasn't you, then someone else did it for you.
