Apple TV 1st Gen Not Visible in iTunes 12.4.1.6

Hi,

I have an Apple TV 1st Generation which I have been using to watch movies, photos and listen to music which has been synced from iTunes on my MacBook Pro for a number of years.

A couple of months ago I started having problems syncing with iTunes. To get round this problem I turned my Firewall off and the Apple TV showed up in the devices and I was able to sync my content.

Unfortunately with this new version of iTunes (12.4.6.1) I can't get the Apple TV to show up in devices. Bizarrely it does show up in the Audio preferences (the TV looking symbol to the left of the Apple logo / gray box).

I have tried disabling my Avast shields and hard wiring it in to my computer but no joy.

Any help resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated!

go to the appletv and remove the connection to the computer and set it up from scratch

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion but as my library is over 600GB it takes a long time to reload it.

Is there any other way to solve this without having to copy over my entire library again?

I had the issue 2-3 times and ended up doing a clean sync each time to fix it but it's a few years ago now the fan in the atv died so I moved on

if you sync then 600GB would not fit the hd in the appletv unless you changed and added a new harddisk

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

I upgraded my ATV generation 1 about 8 years ago (or something like that) to 1TB storage to accommodate my library.

I was really hoping there would be a way to sync without performing a fresh install.

The issue is that the ATV isn't showing up in the device list.
