Safari is telling us to contact Apple Tech Support immediately when opening safari?

When opening safari on our iPad, the url in the search bar is click-safari.com, and after a few seconds of loading, an email draft will pop up saying that we must contact Apple Tech Support (1-844-313-85**) immediately. Is this some sort of virus? Should we contact this number? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a scam. Don't contact anyone in any way.

Quit Safari, then relaunch it while holding down the Shift key.

It's a scam. Force Quit Safari ( command + option + esc keys). Then restart Safari holding the Shift key.

If that doesn't doesn't stop it then download and run MalwareBytes. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our own colleagues here in ASC. It gets rave reviews and is about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac.

Oh, it's an iPad. Forget the key commands.

EDIT: I asked for the post to be moved into iOS or iPad.

Clearly a scam as others said already. However, since this is on an iPad, not a Mac, I suggest resetting Safari to delete any malicious cookies which could have been planted (likely).

Close Safari completely from the app switcher window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the Safari preview pane until it disappears from the screen. Then go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

I was unfortunately scammed! I did not see this post until after. I call the number and had a "tech" navigate my computer! I feel like an idiot but worse am wondering what damage has been done if any. I've removed the Citrix (I think that was the download name for the program to access my computer) and followed all the directions to clear history and such. Any advice and little criticism would be greatly appreciated. I don't know what I was thinking...clearly I wasn't. I think I hung up the phone and disconnected them from my computer in time but I don't know.

This worked like a charm , even an older moderately technically inclined person as myself could follow and use your easy to to understand method of ridding my Thai wife's I pad ( which I never use) of this annoying problem.
for all you do a very big Thank You ,....
