why can't I get ITV Hub and All 4 apps on Apple TV?

I've just purchased the latest Apple TV (32GB) and find I can download BBC iPlayer but not the ITV Hub or All 4. Does anyone know why this is?

thanks in advance

Good news! ITV Hub and My5 are confirmed as coming to the Apple TV later this year along with Apple’s own TV App! See Apple’s latest event:

No news on All 4. I suggest we all contact them to ask them to support it:

You can watch the ITV Hub on an iPhone or iPad. Using either of those, you can use AirPlay Mirroring to send to an AppleTV connected to your TV.

Note: if you are outside the UK you might need a proxy.

ITV have not made an AppleTV App - yet.

You can also view the ITV Hub in your web browser on your Mac/iMac/MacBook, but it depends which model you have as to whether it supports AirPlay.

You may be able to use a cable instead, such as HDMI, to connect your Mac to your TV directly, but some services prevent that from working - and I haven't tested ITV yet.

Going back to the original question: does anyone know why you can't get these apps for the Apple TV?

I don't believe it's about those channels not being bothered to build apps when they have done so for other platforms and they've had plenty of time to build them now.

Is Apple asking for more money than these companies are willing to pay (in the form of a cut of the advertising profits)? Is it about who controls the user data? (I recall reading that Apple won't pass on data to companies on users habits and demographics and many companies value this data greatly)

Also, ITV Hub no longer supports airplay.

The lack of these apps really hampers the utility of the Apple TV as a replacement for all the alternatives. Has anyone heard if there's a release date on the horizon? (After all Apple recently made changes to the cut of the App revenue that they take for TV channels)

Of course I agree they simply just don't want to build them (at the moment) and of course that's their choice. I'm interested in why. Im not saying I have the answer. You'd think Apple TV represented a big enough platform for them to want to be on. Perhaps they recognise that TV is at a tipping point in moving in to an entirely new way of broadcasting and they want to be certain in their approach/model before jumping in. Having said that, that doesn't explain why they're already on Amazon Fire TV. Puzzling and frustrating!

There are a lot of channels on freeview that ITV and Channel 4 have to compete with. They probably pay a premium to broadcast on freeview. If the market is further diluted with Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc...... those channels will lose even more audiences, so it's not really in their interest, to make Apple TV etc.... an attractive place to be. As a majority of these alternative channels divert money from UK companies to US companies, none of which probably pay tax in the UK, I tend to agree with them not adopting these platforms.
