I am trying to decide between buying a smartwatch or a polar watch to track my fitness, heartrate, etc.. Any thoughts?

Is the smart watch you're considering the Apple Watch? If not, this may not be the place for the question.

In my opinion, the Apple Watch does fine for basic fitness and then some. However, if you're training for a race where accurate pace and times are crucial, you may want to consider a dedicated watch with onboard GPS.

Check out dcrainmaker.com for reviews of lots of fitness gadgets. Many fitness watches have smart watch type features (e.g. text and call notifications).

Thanks Meg. Yes, I am considering an Apple Watch. I am everything Apple. And, I like the convenience of actually having a timepiece too. I am not training for anything now. Just getting back to fitness. But want to track and I am serious. Previously I had the Polar heart rate monitor so I was wondering whether people are using the Apple Watch instead and if so, how good it is

In that case, I think the Apple Watch will work well for you. I find that the nagging reminding me to stand is a great feature. Fitness isn't all about running miles or counting steps, it's also about being general more active. The Apple Watch does a great job focusing on that part of the equation.

I only use a chest strap when running. For general use, the Apple Watch works well for heart rate.

I'm really looking forward to watchOS 3. It sounds like it's going to have some (for me) great features.
