Why does Safari log me out of websites ?

About once a week, Safari forgets all of my log-ins (iPad Pro / iOS 9.3.2), and I have to go back to every website, and log-in all over again. I then might stay logged-in a couple of days, maybe a week, maybe longer, but then for no reason, I'll realize that I am no longer signed in anywhere. This is really a pain and quite annoying. How do I get Safari to remember me all the time ?

iPad Pro, iOS 9.3.2, 128 GB Wi-Fi

Some websites issue cookies with expiration dates. If you don't revisit the site before the cookie expires, your login dies.

I assume that in the Safari settings you've allowed cookies from "Websites i visit". That would be necessary to preserve those logins.

Finally, if you run some memory-intensive apps, Safari may get pushed out and forget its cookies in the process

Well, I've been logged into Google on my Lenovo T430 laptop, since "I can't remember when", but I'm using Mozilla Firefox there, and I never remember getting logged out of everything at once. With Safari, I'm having to go back and log into every website that I use, now, multiple times a week / day. I've recently had to do that twice, since posting this question, just yesterday, and it's becoming quite annoying and time consuming.........

I would look at this from a different perspective: it is for your own security to log out. As long as the browser remembers your passwords, anyone can get into your account much more easily to steal your info.

FWIW, it isn't only the OS or the browser with a log out function: a lot of websites do it automatically, especially any financial/bank site.

So, rather than looking at it as an annoyance, be grateful that your information is safe.

As for these forums here: an automatic log out after about 30 minutes of inactivity is intended and was implemented some time ago. This is also for security reasons and as an anti-spam measure.

Yes, I know you are, especially since you posted in the iPad forum. I will have to do some further research on my iPad Pro (which I won't be able to do until tomorrow) - you may be experiencing some weird glitch as I have not experienced that kind of behavior. I do know that they implemented automatic logouts here on the forums and that - at least my - financial institutions do log me out automatically after a certain period of time. I don't have a Google account so I can't test that.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with some ideas. In the meantime, have you tried a reset? That appears to fix all sorts of unexplainable glitches.

Yes, I understand about automatic log outs, as on this forum, and on most financial websites. No problem with those. I'm just not understanding why the iOS is logging me out of everything! randomly. When it happens, it's everything, and these are websites that I stay logged into indefinitely, on my Lenovo T430 laptop, as well as on my Lenovo desktop. It's definitely not something that is website related, it's got something to do with a setting in either Safari, or on the iPad itself.

Another mystery - when I got this iPad (about 3wks ago), I likewise got one for my wife. Identical units, other than color of the case (Apple iPad Pro 128GB Wi-Fi only). This was our first Apple product, other than some older iPods. We carefully followed the instructions while initially setting them up, set them up pretty much identically (?), and began exploring. Both units appear to be working perfectly, so far, with this logging out issue being the exception. Quite honestly, I think it must be a setting on my unit, because my wife hasn't been logged out of anything, on her unit, since day one. Yes, it's most likely "an operator problem", so I was hoping someone else may have run across this same situation, and be able to point me in the right direction.

I admit it's strange, and quit an unpredictable event, as I may go several days (4 - 5 or more), without a mass logout, and then I may experience 2 or 3 in one day, maybe multiple occurances within a single hour, and nothing to indicate what may be triggering this. I've looked at setting after setting, and I am pretty much stumped. Usually my first clue that this has occurred, is that I notice that I am not logged into Gmail and/or Google (which I use as my home page on most of my computers). Then I check and see that I am logged out of everything once again.

I have removed all saved usernames and passwords and started over several times, which usually seems to help for an extended period, but eventually seems to fail. Oh, and yes, I do have the setting "to allow cookies from websites I visit", enabled. Again, I'm stumped.

I know you feel this is not possible, but I still believe that Safari is restarting. This may be due to running out of memory, being pushed out by another app requiring some memory, or due to a flawed webpage. Do you keep a lot of tabs open? Do you sometimes visit pages with a lot of advertising and decoration? CNET is a notable example. Momentarily losing the internet connection would probably also cause this.

I have the same iPad Pro and haven't experienced any logouts. As well, I've been dealing with Mac OS for quite some time and am reasonably knowledgeable about it; however, the walled garden environment of iOS leaves me puzzled and difficult, if not impossible, to analyze. Most of the "fixes" available simply are either changing the settings or reset the device.

Have you gone to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data as well as Advanced > Website Data. You will need to log in again I'm sure but you're starting with a clear slate.
