Virgin Superhub & TC Bridge Mode

Hi all,

I'm UK based and e run our internet through a Virgin Superhub (combined cable modem / router) i want to connect my TC to this and use my TC's wireless network, but maintain the Superhub wireless network as well.

I've set up the TC in bridge mode under the Network tab. I was then connecting from the WAN port on the TC to the Superhub, but this kept crashing the superhub. So i switched and connected from one of the TC LAN ports to the ethernet port on the Superhub.

This connects ok and i can get onto the TC wireless network, but it won't allow internet access. When i unplug the TC, i have to reset the router.

Any help appreciated. It all used to work fine, and then the Superhub was physically changed by Virgin for an updated one.

I haven't changed anything on the Internet tab in AIrport Utility, do i need to?

Other items connected to the Superhub are a Sonos Bridge and Apple TV (both wired).

Thanks

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Is the TC set to create a wireless network.. it MUST NOT EXTEND wireless.

Although I doubt it would even be possible to set it up that way.

The internet tab should be setup for DHCP .. but let me suggest another setup which I find suits my needs better.

Static IP.

I have done a very full post here with the details.

Re: airport time capsule keeps disconnecting

If you need help please give me the actual info from the Virgin router.. its home IP address and the DNS and gateway you are getting on the client devices.

From that I can give you more specific set of instructions.

Thanks. I had a look through the post and tried but couldn't get anywhere.

I'm not getting any DNS numbers on the TC before i tried the fix or after?

As for the Superhub;

IP: 192.168.0.1

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (last digit changeable)

DHCP

Check box checked to enable DHCP

IP Address: 192.168.0.2(<changeable) to 241 (not changeable)

Max users: 240 (changeable)

Lease time: 1 Day (changeable)

We have about 10 items using wireless connections and 4 wired connections to the superhub.

I tried to change the IP .2 to .17 and then set the static IP on the TC at .18?

Any help appreciated, not sure if the lack of DNS is relevent?

I've disabled the guest network for now.

Without DNS there is no internet.

Start with a full factory reset of the TC.

Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.

Factory reset universal

Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.

N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.

Run through the setup wizard in the airport utility.

Try using simple bridge mode first..

ie.

Internet tab set to DHCP.

DNS servers should fill in automatically.. if not use your ISP or Google Public, ie 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Wireless tab set to create a wireless network.

Network set to bridge mode.

Do it manually.. do not rely on the auto setup.

If it still doesn't work then please post the same screenshots I have posted.. plus the summary page.
