Mac Says I have 750 GB When I Have 1 TB

OS: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.4

Computer: Mac Mini (Late 2014)

I had a 250 GB bootcamp partition and deleted it using Disk Utility. I now have a 750 GB Macintosh Hard drive that I can't change the size of. The Apple HDD says it "Macintosh HD" has 1 TB, but when you go to Macintosh HD it says it has 750 GB and I can't partition or resize it at all. Heres some pictures:

When you deleted the second partition it was left as free space.

You probably need to boot from the recovery partition (hold command-R at startup) and:

- open Disk Utility

- select the whole drive (labeled "APPLE HDD ...", not the Macintosh HD volume)

- click on Partition

- enlarge the size of the partition to include the free space after it.

Hello averysumner,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. I know how important recovering the space on your hard drive is to you! It sounds like you want to enlarge the Macintosh HD volume, and since this is the volume with the OS X on it, you will have to do this in Disk Utility in the OS X Recovery Mode:

Disk Utility (El Capitan): Partition a physical disk

OS X: About OS X Recovery

Cheers!

I already tried enlarging it with disk utility in recovery mode, but "APPLE HDD" (What has Macintosh HD on it) says that Macintosh HD already takes up the full TB. And when I go into Macintosh HD, it says otherwise. Also, when I try to use Partition to resize it I always get an error saying: "The requested size change for the target disk or a related disk is too small. Please try a different disk or partition, or make a larger change."
