ipod click wheel won't scroll

for some reason my Ipod click wheel won't scroll. I got it 30 days ago and store it in an otterbox whenever I am out and about. It hasn't been dropped or exposed to water. I thought maybe I locked it accedentally, but it is not on hold and all of the buttons work, just not the scroll. *** apples. its only 30 days old, and I am sure they will replace it but backing up 20g's of music is gonna be a pain. Anyway, I wish it is only a matter of holding a few buttons at the same time and not a hardware issue. When I plugged it up to the pc it took it off shuffle, so, though it works, it ***** without the scroll. I hope somebody has a quick fix I wasn't able to find on the website.

From what you're describing, I understand that the iPod isn't frozen or anything, but have you tried resetting it?

Make sure HOLD is OFF (no orange color showing)
Hold MENU and SELECT (center) for about 10 seconds, until you see an Apple logo.
Then release the buttons, and the iPod should start up to the main menu. See if you can scroll from there.

If not, take the iPod back to Apple for a replacement. You can do this at a Genius Bar at an Apple retail store, if you have one close to you.

If you don't have any stores, you can go here to set up a mail-in repair

PS-I did have someone tell me that they were having a similar problem, and they ended up taking a piece of scotch tape and repeatedly stuck it to and removed it from the clickwheel, and it seemed to resolve the issue. You might want to give that a shot and see if it makes a difference.
