I want to buy the new garageband.
I had garage band, have not used it for a year or two, now want it back. It appears that the new version will cost $4.99 which I don't mind, but I can't figure out how to buy and download it. Help??

What is the problem? To purchase GarageBand 10 use this link, then click https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/garageband/id682658836?mt=12
Then click the button View in Mac App Store
You need at least OS X 10.10 to be able to install it.
If you have an older system, try to reinstall GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5. Do you still have system installer DVDs, that came with your Mac, or is GarageBand showing in your Purchases history, the fourth tab Purchases at the AppStore?
Not working. I go to your link, then when I click "view in mac app store" nothing happens.
At some point I got to the purchase page, when I clicked on "$4.99" it said I was getting update, no charge, then said "downloading" but nothing happened. I tried this three times, each time nothing happened.
I have 10 gigs available, my research says only 2 gigs at most are needed to download and install.
Still trying as of 1:30 PM Sunday 7/10/16.
Do you have any firewalls or Antivirus installed, that might be blocking the connection to the App Store?
Can you purchase any application at all? Try to download any free application from the Mac App Store. That will check, if there is problem with your AppleID or payment method. Perhaps you simply need to update the expiration date of your credit card.
Thanks, Leonie, I will try, still not working.
Do you have any more ideas, stevejobsfan0123?
Leonie, or anyone, it seems "view in mac app store" button does not work for any app.
I go to https://www.apple.com/osx/apps/app-store/ and pick any app, hit "view in Mac App Store" and it takes me to a page with another "view in mac app store" button that does not work.
I don't know about firewalls or antivirus, how would I check?
Wouldn't I be prompted if my payment info was not updated?
Thanks.

The only thing I could think of is that he said he has 10GB of free space left, which although it should be enough, is cutting it close. I would try freeing up another 5GB or so and seeing if that helps.
If not, it's probably time to contact Mac App Store support: https://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/.
What happens if you try to launch the Mac AppStore directly by clicking it on your LaunchPad or in the Applications folder? Does it launch?
Do you have any restrictions enabled in your System Preferences > Parental Controls?
Some progress. Appstore will launch from applications folder, but not from launchpad. But once I find garageband and "buy" it tells me it is installing, but freezes. No "progress bar" or sign of activity. Is there another way to find out if it is downloading and/or installing, without interrupting if it is working?

Does your free storage decrease? Or is there a progress bar for GarageBand on the Launchpad icon?
Have you tried to free storage as stevejobsfan01234 recommended?
Looking hopeful. Yes, storage went down, and Garageband has now appeared in my applications folder, says it was put there at 3:25 PM (40 minutes ago). Thanks, I still don't understand why, still need to verify that it works.
Thanks.
Seems to be working, there is a prompt telling me it is in process, could take an hour.
I want to buy the new garageband.
