Magic Mouse connected but no pointer showing on screen

Just switched on my iMac and Magic Mouse and not even logged in. Mouse shows as connected but there's no arrow pointer on screen. Please advise. If mouse is broken how can I shut down the computer?

Hello! Thanks for replying. I did look at the troubleshooting list in the link you shared but it didn't help. However, I managed to get an answer from another website, which is shown below:

Logging in without a Mouse

1. Type first few letters of username until it’s highlighted

2. Type Password

3. Check Bluetooth pairing in System Preferences

If cursor still doesn’t show:

CMD+SHIFT+G to Go To Folder

2. Enter /Applications

3. Arrow keys down to System Preferences

4. CMD+O to Open

5. Type Bluetooth into the Search field

6. Press Enter to open Bluetooth preferences

7. CMD+N to set up new device

I will take your advice and buy a USB mouse as a back-up!

Hi, Linc. Thanks for your reply. I managed to get an answer from another website, which is shown below:

In my case, the cursor did show after I logged in. However, I will buy a USB mouse as a back-up!
