How to restore iTunes from iPod Classic?

I have an iPod classic. My iTunes library and media folder has become corrupted - a lot of my playlists have changed since I upgraded iTunes.

What is the most reliable way of restoring all of my library and media files on my PC? I have the latest version of iTunes now. I understand that there are quite a few third party utilities that can do this but I'd like to know which one is the most reputable and reliable.
